About our Candles

Soy wax is a soot free, clean burning, renewable resource that is a natural alternative to the paraffin candles and zinc wicks that emit many toxins and are made with numerous harmful chemicals, leaving behind a black trail of soot. Our candles are made with pure soy wax, cotton wick and fragrance oil. Soy wax cleans up very easily with soap and water. The jars can be reused or recycled when you are done burning our candles.

About our Soaps

Most soaps that you purchase in retail stores are made with harmful detergents, and the glycerin is removed to use in other products for profit. Our company is geared towards a high quality product that is both safe and good for you and your family. We use the best ingredients we can find, and the end result is a wonderful product that we are proud of and hope you will enjoy!

Our goats milk soap is cold processed then hand milled and cured for weeks. This soap is lightly scented with fragrance oil, and is natural in color without added dyes. If you have sensitive skin or eczema, this is the soap for you. Our soap is made with the freshest goat’s milk, literally straight from the farm.

Our Hemp, Olive oil and Glycerin soaps are all hand poured, either into loaves or molds, to create many different looks. All of these soaps are colored with micas. Mica is the name of a group of naturally occurring minerals which are mined from around the world, purified, and crushed into fine powders.

We are always trying out luscious new fragrance oils and colorful micas to bring you a wide variety from which to choose. As with all natural soaps, do not let them sit in standing water. Set on a soap rack to dry after each use.

About our Other Products

Also available is a luxurious pure soy body butter, foot cream, lotion and lip balm. All are dye free and made with the best ingredients. We continually search out quality ingredients to expand our product lines. Our products are all carefully hand made, right here in southern Oregon!

About Fragrances - Essential Oils vs. Fragrance Oils

See our Fragrance Descriptions - There is a lot of controversy and discussion over whether or not essential oils are the better choice over fragrance oils. Since there is so much written about this topic, our intention is not to rehash the arguments which already exist in abundance, but to tell you why we chose to use fragrance oils in most of our products, rather than essential oils.

Although we started out thinking we would use mainly essential oils, as we delved further into the development of our products it became clear that there were reasons to choose fragrance oils instead. One reason is that not all processing of essential oils provide a "natural" product. Some proecesses require the use of chemicals, and all processes use a very large amount of plants to obtain a very small amount of essential oil. That brings us to another reason...the cost of processing essential oils costs a lot! It costs not only in the decimation of plant materials, but the end product adds a premium price to our processing, which in turn adds a premium price to our customers.

Fragrance oils are synthesized from a variety of plants and other ingredients, some of which are considered Trade Secrets. Fragrance oils allow for complex fragrances that cannot otherwise be obtained, and keep the cost down for the consumer. We feel that for candle and soapmaking, fragrance oils provide the widest range of scents possible and a number of wonderful scents which cannot be provided by essential oils.

We do use some essential oils, depending on the product, but ultimately, at Crater Lake Candle Company, fragrance oils win by a nose.
